1. Psi full form in Police Department
Police Sub Inspector is a rank in the police department, introduced by the British in India and other South Asian countries. The PSI reports to police headquarters of other instructing stations or assists senior officers in handling a case. He is superior to the lower-position workforce, such as Constables, Head Constables, etc.
According to the principles followed by the Indian Police, PSIs are Investigating Officers with the permission to document charge sheets in all courts. All PSIs must qualify for a test organized by the Staff Selection Commission Central Police Organization (SSC CPO) to join the workforce. Candidates who are chosen through the test join as Assistance Sub Inspectors and later get promoted to a Police Sub Inspector level.

History of PSI –
- In 1970, the organization was officially established in the United States. The primary focus of PSI was the work on family arranging and teaching individuals about the many perks of family arranging.
- In 1985, it started providing oral rehydration treatments to individuals.
- In 1988, PSI took on an HIV counteraction project that promoted the use of condoms and fidelity.
- Following the 1990s, it added safe water and malaria to its work.
- In 2004, tuberculosis was included in its portfolio.
Role of PSI in India –
PSI started providing clinical assistance in India officially in 1988. Currently, it has over 1000 staff members in 20 Indian territories. They preach and teach family planning to individuals. 4. Pre-Sentence Investigation (PSI) –
A judge typically asks for a Pre-Sentence Investigation when a defendant pleads guilty, has been found guilty, or requests probation. The purpose of this investigation is to look at the background of the defendant to assist the court in passing a sentence or check whether they are a likely candidate for probation.
The probation office conducts the investigation. A probation officer will interview the defendant regarding family and educational history, employment record, past criminal offenses, and use of drugs and alcohol.
At times, tests will be conducted to measure the drug and alcohol use of the defendant in specific cases where they have been charged with a DUI or Driving While Under the Influence of Alcohol.
After conducting the investigation, a thorough report will be prepared by the probation office that includes all information and court recommendation regarding placing the defendant on probation. The judge will study the report and make the final decision.
5. Personalized System of Instruction (PSI) –
The Personalized System of Instruction is a type of self-learning technique that focuses on promoting learning via a more individualized and learner-controlled instruction method. It has become widely popular across the world as the Keller Plan.
This instruction techniqueis developed based on the ability and needs of the student. Like other individualized learning methods, PSI allows students to go through the course material according to their own pace to gain complete mastery.

6. Personnel Security Investigation (PSI) –
A Personnel Security Investigation is an extensive inquiry into the reputation, character, and loyalty of a person to determine whether they are trustworthy, loyal, reliable, and of good character. The information collected during the investigation is used for determining the individual’s security eligibility, suitability, and loyalty. The extent of the PSI will typically depend on the sensitivity of the job role.
Types of PSI
- National Agency Check (NAC) –This investigation will be made based on the written information provided by the person in an official inquiry and by the reference of appropriate national agencies. It will include a check of records and files of national agencies, such as –
- National Bureau of Investigation (NBI)
- National Intelligence Coordinating Agency (NICA)
- CIDG PNP Camp Crame
- Local Agency Check (LAC) – In this type of investigation, written inquiries will be sent to the concerned government agencies, schools, former employees, and references listed by the individual under investigation. Apart from the schools, references, and past employment, the local agencies will investigate –
- The neighbourhood where the person resides.
- The reports of the Police, Fiscal, or Mayor of the region where the person resides.
- Background Investigation (BI) – The investigation is much more extensive than NAC or LAC. A complete and thorough investigation of some or all of the individual’s circumstances will be included. Depending on the need, it could be either a partial or complete investigation.
7. Proliferation Security Initiative (PSI) –
The Proliferation Security Initiative is a type of global effort that focuses on stopping the trafficking of weapons of destruction, their delivery channels, and other materials related to it to strengthen the non-proliferation architecture. George W. Bush, president of the USA, launched this initiative in 2003.
It started in a meeting but has managed to include endorsements from 105 countries across the globe, including Canada, Russia, the United Kingdom, France, Australia, Japan, Poland, Netherlands, Italy, Argentina, Norway, New Zealand, Singapore, and the Republic of Korea. Though it received more than half of the support from the United Nations, several countries have opposed the initiative, including Indonesia, China, and India.
8. Present Serviceability Index (PSI) –
The Present Serviceability Index is a form of pavement performance measure. The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) introduced the PSI, which is among the few extensively used pavement performance indicators right after International Roughness Index (IRI) and Pavement Condition Index (PCI). The values indicated on the PSI range from 0 to 5, where 0 represents failed pavement, and 5 means a flawless one.
